Rockford MakerSpace
When most people think of CNC machines, they think of manufacturing. At Rockford MakerSpace, we aim to break that stereotype!
Ultimately a CNC machine is a tool for shaping wood, metal, or plastic. To us that sounds like something useful to an artist! Using design tools such as Adobe Illustrator or Blender, an artist can use a CNC machine to bring digital art into the physical world.
What can you make? Jewelry, molds, printing plates, sculpture, inlays, custom tools, and whatever else you can imagine.
The Rockford MakerSpace CNC for Artists class is an introduction to what is possible with a CNC. Participants will have the opportunity to operate a Tormach CNC machine to make a project they can take home.
This class is open to the public. Class registration cost includes materials. No prior experience with CNC machines is required.
The laser cutter at Rockford MakerSpace is probably the most popular piece of equipment we have. This class will teach you the basics of artwork preparation, safety and operation. This class is mandatory for Rockford MakerSpace members that wish to use the laser cutter, however the class is open to everyone. (We want you to check out Rockford MakerSpace and consider becoming a member!)
What, you ask, can the laser cutter do? The laser cutter is an easy-to-use piece of equipment that will cut and/or engrave wood, certain plastics, leather, as well as several other materials.
Minimum age is 13; no unaccompanied minors.
Rockford MakerSpace hosts a member meetup to share ideas and projects on the 4th Wednesday of each month.
This event is not open to the public.
Do you like to send cards to friends and family? In this workshop you can create your own design and print handmade cards for your loved ones. Learn the basics of linoleum block printmaking, carve your own block, and go home with 10 printed cards of your own design and your print block (with the skills and knowledge to make as many more as you wish at home).
We encourage parents to participate with youth (no unaccompanied minors). Minimum age: 13. You will be working with sharp tools and permanent ink. Please dress accordingly.
